Spooky Encounters

I have a tiny idea to share, and I wish you write to me if you have something similar. I'd like to hear your stories.

The myths (and memories) of my city in Jordan, as-Salt, are rich with mentions of the ‘Sakouneh’, who’s a she-ghoul with an animal’s legs that chats with lone wanderers.

Couple of years back, I lost an uncle who was a storyteller by nature - few of the remaining ones. He told me about the Sakouneh when I was a child, not to scare me but just as it was a good story to tell - from pure technical perspective.

I used to walk with my uncle in the mountains in my spring holidays and it was amazing how everything around ignited a memory in his mind, and how that memory translated into a story on-the-go. He simply couldn't tell things in other forms other than stories.

I always had the plan to record his memories, and I always procrastinated. Time didn't wait, and with his death a library was buried. Now I have a plan to record the Salti stories of the second half of the 1900s in the form of a graphic picture book (maybe a graphic novel).. and I'm still procrastinating!

The Sakouneh never appeared to me, but the cats of the neighborhood always filled the gap! :)
