Why have I killed the Simple, Stylish Digital Portrait Painting service?

The Time It Takes
In February 2020, after being approached by Estée Lauder to draw live digital portraits at an event in Saudi Arabia, I realized that it was a great opportunity to take the same service online. And so, my Simple, Stylish Digital Portrait Painting service was born.

Each portrait was completed in less than 15 minutes using a process I developed and practiced. The idea was to keep it simple, appealing and not spend a lot of time on one portrait.
But soon after I started taking orders, I realized the whole process was more like a business transaction than an artistic experience. Therefore, I removed the service from my website recently, as I felt it did not represent me as an artist nor did it allow me to do work that felt authentic and genuine to who I am.
This was not an easy decision. The customer base for this service was nice, mostly students and couples. It was enjoyable to work with them, get to know them, and draw smiles on their faces.

I am not sure how many other artists are out there who offer a similar service, but I know that there are some on Upwork, Fiverr and even Reddit.
The Simple, Stylish Digital Portrait Painting service was a great lesson for me in learning how to work with clients, how to create an effective process, how to launch a new product, and how to get clients interested in my work. It taught me about what kind of offers people respond to and what kind of service they expect from a freelancer like me.
Moving On
Currently, I am focused on the Semi-Realistic Portrait Painting and Custom Cartoon Portrait Painting options. They showcase my skills better and are more enjoyable, with better quality and a truly creative process. I believe this is a better approach for me and my clients.
Therefore, with mixed feelings, I have removed this offering from my website, and I will probably delete all related posts on social media shortly. Whenever anyone asks me to do a digital portrait like the ones I did for the Simple, Stylish Digital Portrait Painting service, I’ll politely say ‘Maybe you want to check my alternative, more elegant services? ’
